Career Exploration

www.nycareerzone.org - a career exploration and planning system designed by NY department of Labor.

www.collegenet.com  - information on college search, links to college & university homepages, financial aid information as well as scholarship searches
www.collegeview.com  - this free site has many features, including: criteria-based searches, virtual campus tours, financial aid answers and resources, school applications, career information, and expert answers, just to name a few

www.greaterbinghamtoncollegeday.org this website has direct links to the websites of colleges that will be at Greater Binghamton College Day which is held the 3rd Wednesday of October at the Broome County Veterans Arena each year.  This annual event is co-sponsored by Binghamton City School District and the Broome Tioga Counselors Association.

www.act.org - information about the ACT assessment including test-taking strategies, sample questions and online registration

Financial Aid
www.finaid.org - a comprehensive site that offers links to college financial aid offices, financial calculators that can help parents figure out how much college debt they can afford, and information on prepaid tuition plans.
www.fafsa.ed.gov - Free Application for Federal Student Aid – apply online and save time.
www.collegeboard.org - has useful financial aid calculators, such as one that lets you see if the amount of debt a student plans to take on meshes with how much he or she can expect to make in a given field.  In addition to a scholarship search engine, it includes the College Scholarship Service/Financial Aid Profile that many schools use to award nonfederal student aid.
www.ed.gov - the Department of Education’s site, where you’ll find the government’s comprehensive Student Guide to Financial Aid as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the required form for anyone applying for college financial assistance.
www.nelliemae.org - the web site of the New England-based company, which makes and buys student loans.  Along with general information on student aid, it offers calculators, including one that helps you compare financial aid award packages of the schools that accept your child.
www.salliemae.com - has useful calculators that let you figure out your family’s expected contribution to college costs and how much you need to invest to meet a particular savings goal.  It also has a scholarship search program and a host of other information on financial aid.
www.hesc.com - Higher Education Services – find out about both federal and state aid that is available to you and link to other college or lender web sites.

Scholarship Information
www.elks.org - one of the world's largest and most active fraternal organizations, which gives away over $3 million in college scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors

- has a search engine that claims to give you access to information on some 400,000 scholarships.  You can customize your search based on such criteria as your ethnic background, academic interests, and extracurricular activities.
www.collegeboard.org - has a scholarship search engine and includes the Financial Aid Profile, which many schools use to award nonfederal student aid
